Dimitris Papapostolou: A source of inspiration for the younger ones

The late Dimitris Papapostolou, an elite music composer, studied Byzantine and European music and distinguished himself for his pioneering choral arrangements of church hymns and orchestrations of folk songs.

His work, which was repeatedly awarded in international music competitions in Greece and abroad, was mainly performed by the internationally acclaimed Experimental Choir, which was created by him based in Agios Nikolaos Chalandriou, where his choral tradition continues. The composer and choirmaster gave successful concerts in Europe, the United States of America and Africa. The Symphonic Orthodox Liturgy, the publication of which I welcome, and many other church compositions of his, deeply touch the soul, move and uplift spiritually.

In addition to his quality musical offering, which was reflected in his rich discography, Dimitris Papapostolou was also distinguished in various ways for his great participation in the public, with the aim of promoting modern Greek culture, inside and outside Greece.

This extraordinary creativity was watered by the Christian education he received from his parents and by the Orthodox spiritual principles, which he embraced since his youth. In the clear atmosphere of the Christian faith, he cultivated his musical talent, extracting with zeal and diligence all that was excellent that he found in the wealth of the long-standing Byzantine tradition. At the same time, he researched with a penetrating eye the various forms of newer music and with patience, enthusiasm and awareness of his limits he struggled and achieved the creative synthesis of the older with the modern. It will be a source of inspiration for the younger ones.

Dimitris Papapostolou, experiencing the life-giving Orthodox spirituality, was constantly looking for new sound forms, to express his faith and devotion to Christ, the absolute Truth, the incarnate Love, the infinite Callos
